‘Determined’ Chris gets award at RAF graduation

DETERMINATION to succeed has been recognised in a former flight sergeant of the Hucknall Air Training Corps (ATC).

Chris Churchman, 18, of Osterley Grove, Nuthall, has just graduated from RAF Halton after nine weeks of initial training and was awarded the RAF Benevolent Trophy for being the most determined airman to succeed.

His parents and other family members all attended the ceremony and are delighted with Chris’ success.

“We are all bursting with pride,” said dad, David Gratton. “Chris joined the ATC when he was 13 and stayed for five years always going to the training nights without fail.

“The trips we made to take him and pick him up have been worthwhile and we are very proud that he is settled and doing well.”

Chris’ mum Patricia Churchman added: “It was a very moving ceremony.”

Chris is now undergoing his 13 months of training as an information and communications control technician at RAF Cosford and is looking forward to his service.

“Being in the RAF is a really rewarding lifestyle and I’m looking forward to a long career with many opportunities and challenges ahead.

“The camaraderie is brilliant and I’m making friends for life. The physical training opportunities enable me to keep my mind and body physically active and fit, which I also enjoy.”

Chris says his time spent with the Hucknall ATC has set him up to succeed. “It’s a fantastic way to take part in countless activities that prepare you for anything in life no matter what you want to do,” added Chris. “They have given me invaluable support over the years and I would recommend it to anyone.”
