VICTORY -- the happy residents celebrate the news the planning bid for 100 houses has been pulled

ANNESLEY Woodhouse residents are celebrating a victory over a housing developer after plans for almost 100 new homes were pulled.

The villagers’ lengthy battle to prevent housing firm Taylor Wimpey building 97 properties off Forest Road now appears to be over after the proposals were withdrawn.

Ashfield District Council’s planning committee had previously blocked the plans — but Taylor Wimpey lodged an appeal and the case was due to be heard at a planning inquiry.

Further plans for a drainage scheme were also withdrawn.

A spokesman for Taylor Wimpey said: “We can confirm we have withdrawn from the appeal process and are now considering our options.”

The news has been welcomed by ACCESS (Annesley Community Committed to Ensuring Sustainable Developments), which wants to see the site designated as green belt.

Chairman Peter Olko said: “I would like to thank all community members who have rallied and offered words of support over the last 10 years.”

He added that he was ‘pleased’ that Taylor Wimpey had acknowledged that the site was set to be recognised as ancient woodland.

Vice chairman Bob Collier said: “I would like on behalf of ACCESS and the community to thank all committee members for their hard work and dedication for their contributions which have enabled this position to be reached.

“I would like to thank all members of the community for their words of encouragement and to Peter Olko, who has guided us through this fraught time.”

ACCESS were supported by Mansfield-based Community Involvement In Green Infrastructure (CIIGI).

Shlomo Dowen, from CIIGI, said: “The teamwork, determination and passionate commitment of ACCESS, combined with the genuine nature conservation value of this piece of historic Sherwood Forest, helped ensure this important victory.”
