Dispatch district transformed into winter wonderland
N-ICE ONE -- Nick Lester and his four year old son Niall enjoy a sledge ride in Hucknall
HEAVY snowfall left Hucknall, Bulwell and the rest of the Dispatch district covered in a blanket of white at the weekend.
Around six centimetres of snow fell in just a few hours after the flurry started at approximately 3 pm on Saturday.
Roads later became sheets of snow and ice, leaving motorists struggling and advised only to make essential journeys.
Bus services throughout the area were scrapped and many shops were force to keep their doors closed.
The snow and sub-zero temperatures also decimated the local football programme with not a single match involving teams from the Dispatch district kicking off on Saturday or Sunday.
Gritting lorries were out doing overtime and residents were urged to keep an eye on their neighbours, particularly the elderly and disabled.
But for youngsters, the flurry provided the perforct opportunity to dust off their sledges to take advantage of the first genuine snowfall of the winter.
Titchfield Park and areas including Misk Hills in Hucknall were a hive of activity.
