Family History subject of WI latest meeting

MEMBERS of Leenside (Hucknall) Women’s Institute were entertained recently with a very interesting talk on “Family History”.

The speaker, a resident of Hucknall, Maureen Newton, told of all the different sources of information available for compiling family trees, which is proving very popular in recent years. She was thanked by Kath Hurt.

The president, Alison Inglis, told members Leenside hoped to be entering the WI competition at the forthcoming Notts County Show and would be glad of any suggestions for the display.

Judy Gow also reported on the next Group Craft Day to be held at the Watnall WI Hall when crochet lessons will be available to members.

The secretary, Cecilia Poxon, gave details of other county events including Nordic Walking at Woollaton Park, a novice golf tournament, and an outing to the Sculpture Park near Wakefield.

An outing to the Royal Horticultural Society Gardens at Harlow Carr Gardens, Harrogate, is also on offer and 21 members are expected to attend the WI Annual Council Meeting at the Royal Concert Hall in April.

Tea hostesses for the evening were Maureen Adams, Lynn Mitchell, Barbara Murdy and Pat Painter.

The next meeting of Leenside (Hucknall) WI, which will be held at the Central Methodist Church, Hucknall, on Tuesday March 18.

The speaker for the evening will be Margaret Harrison, a Nottingham Tourist Guide, whose talk is entitled “Caves of Nottingham” and new members or guests are always welcome.
