Festive heroes to the rescue of collapsed girl

A FORMER Hucknall woman has said a big thankyou to three kind-hearted ‘Good Samaritans’ who offered help when her daughter collapsed in Hucknall town centre during the Christmas period.

It happened just after Helen Turner (42) and her 11-year-old daughter, Olivia, who live in Worcester, had left Hucknall Library on Saturday December 22.

They were walking across the Market Place (pictured) when Olivia, who suffers from diabetes, suddenly slumped to the ground.

“It was all a little chaotic as we waited in pouring rain until an ambulance arrived,” said Helen.

In the meantime, a woman and two men came over to offer the use of their mobile phones and tried to keep Olivia out of the rain.

Helen said Olivia had taken too much insulin and passed out without any warning signs. “By the time we got to hospital, Olivia was absolutely fine, asking for lunch,” said Helen.

She and Olivia spent Christmas with Helen’s parents, Brenda and Peter Wilkins, of Glendon Drive, Hucknall.
