Fire-death accused to go on trial in New Year
A 19-YEAR-old youth who denies the murder of a woman in a fire at a Bulwell house will go on trial in January.
The case of William Rowbotham will begin on Tuesday January 12 and is estimated to last for five to six days, Nottingham Crown Court heard during a brief preliminary hearing.
The teenager, of Raymede Drive, Bestwood Estate, pleaded not guilty at an earlier hearing to the murder of Susie Southern on Thursday June 25.
The body of the 53-year-old grandmother was found in a house on South Snape Close, Snape Wood. She died of carbon monoxide poisoning, an inquest has heard.
Rowbotham also pleaded not guilty to arson with intent to endanger the life of Mrs Southern's husband, Tony, at the house.
Rowbotham further denies burglary of another house on South Snape Close on the same day, with intent to steal there.
Judge Michael Stokes, the Recorder of Nottingham, further remanded him in custody.
