Flooded village road still closed

THE main route into Bestwood Village — Moor Road— is still closed almost two weeks after it flooded during torrential rain earlier this month.

The road was shut to traffic from its junction with Hucknall Road on Thursday December 20 foor safety reasons but the water has still not drained away.

Residents have been in touch with Notts County Council in a bid to find out what plans are in place to deal with the problem.

But Jack Ashworth, a well-known village champion, says he has been met with a wall of confusion.

He says that he was initially told by the council there was no record of a problem.

After further pressing he was told that there was no timeframe in place for the re-opening of the road and that no action can be taken until the water levels drop.

But there is frustration as it is one of only two access points to the village for 2,000 residents.
