Hair stylist through to finals
A TALENTED hair-stylist from Hucknall has won through to the regional finals of the coveted L'Oreal Colour Trophy – for the second year running.
Tanya Hennessey, owner of Hair XS on Trent Drive, was one of 25 whose talent shone through against competition from more than 1,200 salons.
First held in 1954, the trophy awards have been transformed from a simple hairdressing competition into a inspiring gala event, with dinner and showstopping performances of the stylists' talents.
Hair XS is one of three salons from the Nottingham area to get through but the only one from Hucknall.
Tanya (42) will now go to the north-west regional finals at Manchester's Central Hotel on Thursday March 26 when she will have 30 minutes to impress judges with her styling talents.
If she is successful there, she will be one of three to go onto the grand final at Earl's Court in London on Monday June 1.
In the capital, she would be competing against winners from other regions, including Scotland, London and the North East.
Last year, Tanya won through the regional finals but was unsuccessful at Earl's Court in the grand final.
Tanya, who has run Hair XS for more than three years with her husband Tony (46), said: "Getting through to the most prestigious award twice on the trot means the world to me. I can't quite believe it.
"But our image is much stronger than last year and we would love to scoop an award this year."
To get to the regional finals, entrants had to send in a photograph of a model showcasing their particular style. Globally renowned hairdresser Trevor Sorbie was one of the judges and he explained what made Tanya's effort stand out.
He said: "I'm looking for an image that jumps out and makes me stop in my tracks. A successful photographic entry will show consideration towards every element – cut, colour, make-up, clothes, styling and most importantly, the model.
"When they all come together, you see real professionalism and winning potential."
