A MEDLEY of Jubilee decorations, fun school discos and a cracking Christmas grotto have earned Annesley woman Nora Matthews the honour of an Ashfield Rose.

The hard-working mum and grandma, a member of Annesley Primary School’s Parents 4 Pupils group, was nominated by teaching assistant Leanne Albon for her ‘tireless dedication’ and for always going that extra mile for the children. She receives no pay, yet spends hour after hour of her own time organising events, activities, fundraising and decorating.

Leanne said: “The parents in this group organise wonderful activities whilst raising money, too. They’re a fantastic team but Nora really does above and beyond. We’d like to say a massive thank you and let her know that her hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. She makes a real difference for the children, giving up her time and making the effort to do something positive.”

Praised for her inspirational ideas, boundless energy and enthusiasm, Nora works nights as a carer at Annesley Lodge and regularly arrives for Parents 4 Pupils duty straight from work having had little or no sleep. During the Jubilee, she decorated the whole school just to see the delight on the children’s faces, and gave up over a week of her time pre-Christmas trimming the halls and classrooms.

Headmaster Paul Nolan said: “Nora has such attention to detail. She’s been busy running raffles, decorating and painting scenary. She made Christmas very special and memorable for everyone.”

The Ashfield Rose initiative was launched by Chad in November to recognise the work of kind-hearted citizens across the district. It is supported by Kirkby-based Florist Floral Expressions.
