Health day success at Bulwell Forest

HEALTH walks, bike rides, trampolining and zumba were just some of the many activities on offer at Bulwell Forest Action Group’s Health and Fitness event.
Held on Monday 18th February, people of all ages were catered for in the one day event to tackle health issues facing the community by encouraging exercise and healthier living.
The day was held at the Henry Mellish Sports Centre and was made possible through multi-agency involvement to offer a selection of advice and activities.
“It was a great day with over 220 people coming along and enjoying what was on offer,” said Bill Blackamore, of Bulwell Forest Action Group, which was formed three years ago.
“We tried to cater for all ages and had various activities on offer which included making smoothies by bike power as well as having the Bike Doctor on site to show people how to make small repairs to their bikes so they are not prevented from using them.”
The group was formed when it was discovered Bulwell people were dying 10 years younger than in other parts of the city.
“Our aim is to encourage residents to take more responsibility for themselves and their community,” added Bill. “This is a lovely area with the river running through it and people should feel proud of where they live.”
