Hucknall home set to close

HUCKNALL based nursing home Havana House is set to close, forcing residents to find alternative accommodation.

The privately owned facility is based on Broomhill Road and is run by Rodenvine, owners of Silverdale, which featured on last week’s Hucknall Dispatch front page.

Silverdale came under heavy fire following a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). It was discovered that ‘residents’ personal privacy, dignity and independence were not respected’ and staff and management were criticised in the report.

Now owners have decided to close Havana House, an older property which can accommodate up to 23 residents but only currently houses nine.

Coun Kevin Rostance is the chairman of the Adult Social Care and Health Committee at Nottinghamshire County Council.

He said the decision to close Havana House was taken by the owners and has nothing to do with the recent inspection of Silverdale by the CQC.

“As we understand it the owners have decided to close it because of the age of the property and due to the lack of residents it isn’t financially viable.

“Our priority now is to ensure the residents, of which seven are funded through the county council, will find alternative homes where they are happy, safe and secure.”

It is understood the home will close at the end of the month so the authorities don’t foresee any problems finding suitable accommodation close by for the convenience of residents and their families.

Coun Rostance added: “We will be working together with the families and the home owner to make sure the move is done in the right way and to everyone’s satisfaction.”

Despite repeated attempts to speak to the owners, they failed to comment.
