A HUCKNALL mum-of-four and full-time student has enlisted the help of a town business to promote a health awareness event she is involved in.

Claire Watts, 31, together with Marta Wakeling and Donna Mather are currently studying on a health access course at Nottingham’s Clarendon College. Through the course, Claire hopes to realise her dream of becoming a paramedic.

As part of the course, students are organising and taking part in a health awareness event promoting the top UK killer diseases and highlighting the national health targets set out by the government.

“We want to attract as many people as possible to the event,” said the married mature student who is mum to four youngsters from the age of nearly two to 10. “The idea is to promote awareness and recognise the severity of some of these conditions in the hope of prevention. After all, prevention is better than cure.”

The event will take place at the college throughout the day on Wednesday January 30 and visitors can drop by anytime.

Claire, of Kenbrook Road, and her team have been exploring the effect and occurrence of different types of cancer as just one of the health challenges facing the public and have acquired factual literature from leading cancer charities to pass on the information during the event as well as researching the subject.

“And thanks to Watnall Road based Total Sports, who have supplied us with printed T-shirts, we are hoping to attract many visitors to our stand,” added Claire, who has already spent three years studying to enable her to access university.

“I really want to be a paramedic as I work well under pressure and want a career in an adrenaline-fuelled environment,” she added.

“I’m only half way through achieving this but I believe if you want something enough, you’ll do it no matter what.”
