Hucknall woman raises the bar with her pub career after scooping national award
SINCE starting a job with a national pub chain, a Hucknall girl’s career has gone from strength to strength.
Charlotte Bonser, 20, began working with The Spirit Pub Company just over a year ago as a team player, but soon become an award-winning employee.
Not only did she win the company’s Apprentice of the Year award but took the title of Intermediate Apprentice of the Year at a national ceremony held at the House of Commons by the Hospitality Guild.
“When I found out that I had been nominated, I was really pleased, and then when I was told that I had been shortlisted, I could barely believe it,” said a delighted Charlotte. “I am so excited to have won – I absolutely love my job and to receive an award for something I love to do is amazing.”
Charlotte works at The Polite Vicar pub in Stoke but returns home to visit family regularly, including her mum who lives on Robin Bailey Way and proud grandparents Brian and Margaret Ridsdale, who contacted the Dispatch.
“We are so proud of her and what she has achieved,” said Mr Ridsdale, who lives on Royce Avenue. “She has worked hard and done so well to achieve all she has in such a short time.”
Charlotte was a pupil at Holgate School before leaving to do a college course in travel and working part-time in shops.
But it was only when she entered the pub trade that her career really took off.
As part of her prize, as well as winning a £500 Red Letter experience and an iPad, Charlotte will receive a week’s work experience at the luxury Westbury Hotel in Mayfair, London.
Charlotte added: “I miss my family and Hucknall since moving to Stoke with the job but I love it, as every day is different and you never know who is going to walk through the door.”
Now deputy general manager Charlotte is continuing her training after completing her level 2 in food and beverage service with a qualification in team leading.
Tina Robinson from Kirkby based Charnwood Training Group, who delivered her training added: “I’m so pleased for Charlotte - she truly deserved to win this award.
“She’s always eager to learn and develop her skills and is an absolute pleasure to work with.
“It’s been great to watch her gain in confidence over the last year and I’m sure this win will only serve to reinforce that she has a bright future ahead of her.”
