Illegal dogs to be destroyed

TWO banned dogs are to be destroyed after their owner admitted illegally possessing them in Bulwell.

Pit-bull terrier-type dogs Jealous and Ginge had 139 scars between them when they were found at Abercarn Close, Bulwell by RSPCA officers last December.

Both are banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Nottingham magistrates have ordered the dogs to be destroyed and banned their owner, Jermaine Simson, from keeping a dog for three years.

He was given a community order, with an unpaid work requirement of 100 hours to be completed in 12 months. He must also pay costs of £200 to the RSPCA.

Simson (24), now of no fixed address, admitted two charges of possessing the dogs.

Prosecuting for the RSPCA at an earlier hearing, Maria Moore said police and RSPCA officers found the dogs in a shed without windows on December 27 last year. Dog excrement and urine could be smelt ten feet away.

One of the dogs was in a cage without water and the other had a bowl of dirty water to drink from.

Both dogs were aggressive and had to be sedated before they were taken away to be examined.

In mitigation, Christine Luckock said the dogs fought with each other when Simson was not present because he was their ‘master’.

She said RSPCA officers gave the dogs back to Simson after his ex-girlfriend said she wanted them out, and no-one told him the breed was prohibited.

He had been living at his grandparents’ house and kept the dogs in a shed so they would not have to be responsible for them.

Ms Luckock claimed that Simson had not had time to clear the mess in the shed or fill the bowls with water.
