Long-awaited village blueprint on display
A BLUEPRINT for the future of a Dispatch district village is to be unveiled this weekend.
The Bestwood Village Plan, which has been developed over the last three years, will be launched at a special event in the village today (Saturday).
It sets out the village’s vision for the next ten years, and focuses on five key areas — services, social and leisure, transport, surroundings and communication.
Village Vision, a steering group formed following an open meeting held in the village in 2009, have produced the plan which will help influence the basis of any future development or investment. Fifteen of the 26 people who attended the open meeting put themselves forward to form the steering group and have remained involved.
Jack Ashworth, chair of the Village Vision steering group, said he was delighted to be launching the plan after three years of hard work.
“It has been a really concerted effort by this group of people.
“The plan is very important because it is a ten year plan but it is flexible so it will change as situations change over the next ten years,” he said.
“It is a blueprint for the kind of issues that are felt to be important by the people living in the village.
“Although it is a community plan, we have been working with various partners including the local councils, from the parish council to Gedling Borough Council and Nottinghamshire County Council.
“We are very proud of the plan and a lot of hard work has gone into it.
“It’s easy to read and informative and we hope that people will appreciate what has been done.
“Obviously it is not going to reflect everybody’s feelings but the ideas have come from the village.”
The plan incorporates a number of areas, looking at issues as diverse as improving the frequency of the bus service in the village; reducing criminal damage and developing a village newspaper or magazine.
Copies of the plan will be delivered to every household in the village throughout the next month, though some copies will also be available at the launch event on Saturday, which is being held at the Community Centre at 2pm.
Hucknall and Bestwood Village Conservative MP Mark Spencer will be cutting a special celebration cake and Gedling Borough councillor and Nottis County councillor Chris Barnfather (Con), who has provided close support throughout the project, will also attend and say a few words.
The Hawthorne School choir will be providing musical entertainment and Surestart are providing play activity for youngsters. Light refreshments will be available, courtesy of the Women’s Institute.
