A 55-year-old man has been charged with burglary in connection with a bag theft from a pub in the Derbyshire Dales.

In October last year, a member of staff at the Hope and Anchor, in Wirksworth’s Market Place, had her bag stolen while she was working in the pub before opening hours.

The bag, which contained items including cash, bank cards and prescription glasses, had been stored in a staff-only area when it went missing.

A man was spotted on CCTV entering the pub and leaving a few minutes later.

On Tuesday, March 12, police were called to the town after a member of the public reported recognising a man from the CCTV footage.

A 55-year-old man from Nottingham was arrested and has since been charged with burglary.

He has been bailed and is due to appear before magistrates in Chesterfield on Monday, April 8
