EIGHT-year-old Bulwell girl Chloe Walker this week enjoyed a moment she willl always remember.

Chloe, who goes to Rufford Primary School, won a raffle in which the prize was to take part in the turn-on of the Christmas tree lights in Bulwell town centre.

She joined Coun Jackie Morris, a Labour member for Bulwell ward on Nottingham City Council, to perform this honour.

The switch-on formed the climax of a festive afternoon of carol singing, crafts and community engagement in the Market Place area.

Disco entertainment was provided and music for the carols was played by a Salvation Army band, with the New Generation Praise Team Gospel Choir also making a tuneful contribution.

The carols and Christmas songs included ‘Away In A Manger’, ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’, ‘Frosty The Snowman’ and ‘Silent Night’.

Free refreshments of mince pies, lemon curd tarts, tea and coffee were laid on by members of Bulwell’s One Vision Partnership.

Decorations for the tree were made by pupils of Bulwell St Mary’s C of E, Crabtree Farm, Cantrell, Rufford, Springfield and Snape Wood Primary Schools and Bulwell Academy.

The event was organised by the city council in conjunction with Bulwell Education Actlon Zone (EAZ), Churches Together in Bulwell, Nottingham Police and the One Vision Partnership.
