MP hits out at rail-fares hike

HUCKNALL Conservative MP Mark Spencer has hit out at increasingly high train fares.

He questions the fairness of expecting the Sherwood constituency’s largely bus and car-based commuters to support national rail development and increased usage.

“Public transport provision in my constituency is shockingly poor and, with the exception of Hucknall, railway provision is pretty much non-existent,” said Mr Spencer.

He added that a policy of ensuring that rail fares rose slowly while demanding better value for money in terms of efficiency was vital.
