New group to help boost estate spirit
A NEW initiative has been launched to boost the community spirit in an underprivileged area of Hucknall.
Coun Keir Morrison, a Hucknall Labour member of Ashfield District Council, has played a key role in forming Butlers Hill and Goodall Crescent Tenants and Residents Association.
He is particularly keen to see younger people of the area play an active part within the new group. “I think that if they get more involved, it will benefit them and the community as a whole,” said Coun Morrison.
“We obviously also value involvement by older people because of the wisdom and experience thay can call upon.”
Coun Morrison said the association was ready and willing to take up any problems raised by residents and there would be close co-operation with the police, Ashfield Council, Ashfield Homes and Notts County Council,
“I have had several meetings with the police over the last few months,” said Coun Morrison. “I am hoping the association can work in partnership with them.
“I asked for Hucknall East ward, especially Goodall Crescent, to be considered a priority in a bid to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.
“The police have given a commitment to put extra resources into the area. Residents tell me they have noticed the difference this has meant to them and they are very appreciative of our efforts.
“We are all too well aware that Goodall Crescent has been a major crime and anti-social behaviour hotspot in the past but things have improved a lot.
“I recognise that we will never eliminate problems entirely but I hope we have now turned the corner, and the association will do everything it can to ensure a good image for this part of Hucknall.”
Coun Morrison said special thanks were due to Maureen Brooks and John Dooley for the vital part they had played in getting the association up and running. “I feel really pleased that the association has now been set up and I am sure it will have a very positive part to play,” he added.
The association is holding monthly meetings at East Side Methodist Church on Cavendish Close, Butlers Hill. The next one will be on Tuesday October 23, starting at 6.30 pm.
