Park boathouse targeted by vandals
THE former boathouse at Hucknall's Titchfield Park has been targeted by vandals.
New tiles had only just been put on the roof of the small structure before some of them were smashed.
Coun Gordon Riley, a Hucknall Conservative member of Ashfield District Council, said the damage made the spending of 22,000 to upgrade the boathouse look like "chucking money down the drain".
He added: "A continuous vigil is needed to stop this sort of thing happening and I think the site might as well be flattened."
Coun Riley claimed there was little chance of the park getting a Green Flag environmental award unless the vandalism could be stopped.
Trevor Locke, chairman of the Friends of Titchfield Park group and a former Labour member of Ashfield council, said the boathouse was in a vulnerable position, especially when it was dark.
He favoured re-locating the building to another part of the park, which he understood had previously been agreed.
