Party time for Abigail
Theatre-goers are to be transported back in time to an era of Donna Summer as a new production of Abigail’s Party opens in Nottingham later this month.
Following its successful stint in London’s West End, Mike Leigh’s classic comedy of manners will open at Nottingham’s Theatre Royal from 21st-26th January.
Set in the 1970s, the pretensions of the suburban middle class are played out over the course of a dinner party in this biting satire.
Beverly Moss and her estate agent husband Laurence have invited round their new neighbours Tony and Ange along with nervous divorcee Sue who is twitchy about the party her 15-year-old daughter Abigail is throwing over the road.
As Beverly plies the guests with alcohol, cigarettes, Demis Roussos and nibbles, the dinner party descends into drunkenness and debauchery.
This production stars Hannah Waterman, who is best known for her role as Laura Beale in the BBC soap EastEnders.
Since leaving the show, she has gone on to star in numerous stage productions - including Carrie’s War, Rattle of a Simple Man, The Vagina Monologues and Calendar Girls.
She will be joined by Martin Marquez, who recently starred in the West End production of Billy Elliot. Martin is also set to appear in the film version of Les Misérables.
Abigail’s Party is presented by Theatre Royal Bath Productions and Menier Chocolate factory Productions.
Tickets cost between £14 and £27.50, with concessions available. It will take place at 7.30pm each evening and there are also various matinee performances.
