PLANS to build an apartment block and bungalows on the derelict Sutton Baths complex were approved by Ashfield District Council’s planning committee last night.

Councillors were unanimous in approving the proposals, which will see 22 apartments and three bungalows erected, plus a community room, off street parking and a garden area.

The plans have proved controversial because local historians were keen to keep the attractive building, which is an integral part of the town’s architectural heritage.

A compromise solution has now been found, with the facade of the Brook Street baths being maintained on the front of the apartment building.

We want to know what you think about the development. Post your comments below or email helen.beighton@chad.co.uk.
