Police give away cycle-safety goodies

AFTER the deaths of two young Hucknall cyclists in road accidents in recent months, local police are holding a cycle-safety awareness event.

National Personal Safety Day on Monday October 8 will feature a number of activities, but between 7.30-9pm, on Hucknall Market Place, youngsters are invited to bring along their bikes and get safety advice.

There will also be the chance of obtaining, for free, high-visibility vests, tops and rucksacks, as well as cycle lights and locks.

n SHED owners are being warned to protect their property by ensuring all outbuildings are locked securely after a number of break-ins.

Police have received reports of five sheds being broken into and tools being stolen from the Wood Lane allotments in Hucknall overnight between Saturday September 15 and Sunday September 16. Locks and doors were damaged and a number of small items stolen, including an axe.

A lawnmower was also stolen from a shed at the Garden Road allotments in the town.

n BURGLARS failed in their attempts to break into a garage on Shelton Avenue in Hucknall on Monday September 17 but left severe damage.

Vehicles have not escaped recent crime with power tools taken from a work van on Papplewick Lane, Hucknall on Wednesday September 19, while several cars in the Titchfield Park area of the town had their aerials damaged.
