Police warning after pensioners hit by burglary
PENSIONERS have been targeted by two men who posed as Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators before burgling their home in Hucknall.
The pair stole wallets and cash from the elderly residents at their Nottingham Road house after telling them they were concerned about a crack in the dining-room window.
But while in the dining room one offender searched through a chest of drawers while the second man kept watch outside.
The raid happened at about 5.30pm on Tuesday January 10.
One man is described as white, between 5’9” and 5’10” tall, of medium build, and in his late teens/early twenties.
He was wearing dark clothing with his hood up.
The second offender was white, about 5’3” tall, of a similar age and had short dark hair. He was wearing a dark-coloured jacket.
Hucknall’s police chief, Insp Nick Butler, said: “Distraction burglaries are rare these days but because they are rare, they can catch people out.
“Nobody should ever allow someone they don’t know into their home. If it is a bona fide caller, they will not mind showing you their credentials.”
Police are also seeking information after a house burglary on Burberry Avenue in Hucknall on Tuesday evening.
Thieves stole a television which was recovered from the nearby Robin Hood railway line.
Anyone with information should call Ashfield North CID on 101 (extension 806 3632) or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
