Recession advisers cannot cope

PEOPLE are having to be turned away "in droves" from Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) sessions at Hucknall's Under One Roof centre, it has been claimed.

The CAB hold their sessions on Wednesdays from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm but cannot cope with the number of clients desperately needing their help, says Under One Roof spokeswoman Brenda Shelbourne.

She added that the crisis had arisen because Hucknall Voluntary Advice Centre on Watnall Road closed at the end of last year – at a time of great need due to the impact of the economic downturn.

Brenda said she had raised the issue with Sue Davis, chief executive of Ashfield CAB, who are based at Sutton-in-Ashfield.

"People's problems are often very complex, so the advisers may only be able to deal with four or five people in one morning," she added. "Nottinghamshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) are funding advice sessions at Hucknall Torkard Hill Medical Centre but more are needed in the town centre."
