Scouts honour for Hucknall student

A MEMBER of the 1st Greasley Guides Company has been selected to represent Nottinghamshire at the Scouts and Guides International Jamboree in Belgium.

Hucknall National Academy student Amelia Swinscoe (14) was selected after the group was invited to attend a Jamboree seminar at the Elton Campsite.

Amelia was delighted to accept the invitation and embrace the opportunities it will present her. She said she felt “on top of the world” when she heard the good news.

The Jamboree will host over 12,000 scouts and guides from around the world this July, taking place in the stunning woodland scenery of the “Hopper De Kluis” scouting centre, near Brussels.

With the help of supportive Mum Vicky and sister Olivia, who are both also involved in girlguiding, she plans to raise £1,100 to fund the trip by volunteering in community guiding projects.

She has started fundraising by giving Hanson House, a girlguiding centre in Linby, a spring cleaning. Anyone who would like to support her adventure should call Vicky on 01773 780 735.
