Teenager facing drugs charge

A 19-YEAR-OLD Vietnamese man was due to make a second appearance at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday) in connection with the discovery of more than 1,800 cannabis plants in Hucknall.

Chinh Van Nguyen, of no fixed address, is charged with producing drugs after the plants, with a street value of up to £1 million, were found at Alexandra House off Watnall Road.

The haul is thought to be one of the biggest amounts of cannabis ever to have been found in Nottinghamshire.

Nguyen had been remanded in custody after a previous appearance before Nottingham magistrates on Thursday last week.

Police discovered a sophisticated operation with the use of hydroponic equipment when they raided the site. Hucknall police chief Insp Nick Butler said officers spent several days at the scene recovering the plants and dismantling the systems used for growing the cannabis.

A 16-year-old boy of no fixed address has also been charged with producing cannabis in connection with the discovery. A 45-year-old man was also arrested during the investigation and was released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Police described the cannabis find as an ‘isolated case’.
