Teenagers charged over 1,800 drugs plants

TWO teenagers have been charged after police discovered a cannabis factory in Hucknall this week packed with drug plants with a street value of up to £1 million.

Officers raided Alexandra House on Watnall Road in the town on Tuesday morning and unearthed 1,800 plants — a haul believed to be one of the biggest-ever found in Nottinghamshire.

Now 19-year-old Vietnamese man, Chinh Van Nguyen (19), of no fixed address, and a 16-year-old boy, who also has no fixed home but cannot be named for legal reasons, have been charged with production of cannabis.

They appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday).

A third man was also arrested in connection with the discovery but has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Hucknall’s police chief, Insp Nick Butler, said: “Police discovered a sophisticated set-up inside with thousands of plants and hydroponic systems.

“Police will act on any information about local criminality and I urge anyone with information about crime happening where they live to get in touch.”

Officers have spent several days at the scene, recovering the plants and dismantling the growing systems.

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire police said that while the amont of cannabis discovered was substantial amount, this was an isolated discovery and they do not consider there to be a cannabis problem in the town.
