Temperatures lower than Russia during recent freeze
JOIN THE SLEDGING QUEUE! -- the scene at Misk Hills in Hucknall -- DISPIC NHUD12-0232-1
SUB-zero temperatures hit a remarkable low last weekend when the Dispatch district felt the full force of the belated winter freeze.
Thermometers in Hucknall and Bulwell registered minus-ten degrees celsius last Friday (February 10) and into the early hours of Saturday morning (February 11).
Other parts of the East Midlands saw temperatures as low as minus-15 degrees.
It is understood to have been the coldest night of the winter so far and the coldest night in the Dispatch district since December 2010.
It was even colder in Hucknall and Bulwell than it was in Russia!
The Met Office was forced to issue a ‘yellow’ severe-weather warning and urged drivers to avoid unnecessary journeys because roads were blighted by black ice.
Gritters dispatched by Notts County Council and Ashfield District Council continued to rack up the miles.
The freeze caused problems for families heading on holiday for the school half-term break and also decimated the local football programme for the second week running.
Thankfully the Dispatch district has thawed out during this week with temperatures steadily climbing.
