Video: Real ale treat at Hucknall Beer Festival
HAVE you ever tried a Dancing Duck or even aimed for a Double Top or looked at the North Star?
Well all this and more can be found at Hucknall’s Beer Festival this weekend.
Don’t miss the chance to try something different down at the John Godber Centre.
I went along on Friday afternoon not long after the doors opened and was surprised by how many people had already gathered.
Centre manager Kim Pears handed me a programme and I met up with CAMRA’s Nottingham branch secretary, Andrew Ludlow, who started to pour me a pint.
This is the first time I have ever been to a beer festival and I must admit I’m not your typical beer drinker preferring a gin and tonic with ice and a slice.
But I rolled up my sleeves and got stuck in in the name of journalism and tried a few tipples of what was on offer.
My three samples varied in colour, strenth and flavour.
My first drink was of course the Hucknall brewed Lincoln Green Spring Green.
This is similar to a lager being pale gold in colour like a late summer. It was tasty enough and I could have managed a pint maybe of this.
The next contender vying for my attention was the Ilkeston brewed Muirholme Smoked Porter. This is a very dark ale that is best served in winter by a log fire with a cat curled up in your lap.
It was a tangy taste but I could probably only manage a half pint of this.
Finally a tipped back the Corrosion of Conformity. This boasts a mid autumn colour of browny-gold just before the leaves begin to fall.
It had an interesting taste at first but left me with a weird aftertaste that wasn’t particularly pleasant.
But as I said earlier, I’m not a beer drinker so probably not the best of reviewers so don’t take my word for it, go along and try them for yourself.
The event lasts until Sunday with live music Saturday night from 7.30pm.
