Work on energy park set to start
AN in-depth clearance of former allotment land on Blenheim Lane, Bulwell is due to be carried out to prepare the site for a groundbreaking energy park.
A Nottingham City Council spokesman said a public announcement about the £530,000 development, which would create about 800 jobs and create millions of pounds worth of investment, was due to made some time this month.
He added that the intensive clearance would make the site suitable for contractors to begin work on the park in the New Year.
The spokesman said £150,000 had been earmarked for the ‘total and serious’ clean-up of the land, which would include the removal of any hazardous waste.
Preliminary work on clearance and to secure the site has already been carried out.
The park would contain business units and a power plant to provide energy for the units from recycled waste.
The remaining gardeners were evicted from the allotments site in July after a court case and the preliminary work was carried out by an enterprise company.
The council is engaged in talks with potential developers and the clearance work will enable the site to look as attractive as possible.
The spokesman said the work would need to be completed before next March so as to avoid the bird-nesting season. He added that surveys had taken place to make sure no wildlife would be disturbed.
Bulwell residents have expressed mixed views about the plans. Some regret loss of the allotments but others welcome the jobs which the energy park will create, as long as they are for local people.
