'X Factor' star to wow Ashfield Show

THE ORGANISERS of Ashfield Show have COMBED the entertainment world to find the headline act for next month's big event.

Now they can announce that big-haired Jamie 'Afro' Archer, who was a finalist in last year's 'X-Factor' TV talent search, will take centre stage.

Archer will star at Sutton Lawn, Sutton-in-Ashfield, at the one-day show on Saturday August 7, bringing his soulful sound to thousands of spectators, including hundreds from Hucknall.

The London-based singer found fame in the Simon Cowell-fronted 'X-Factor' when he impressed the judges in front of 2,000 people with his rendition of the Kings Of Leon hit 'Sex On Fire'.

At the Ashfield Show he will share the limelight with the Counterfeit Beatles — a tribute band dedicated to the 'Fab Four' from Liverpool.

Ashfield District Council has decided to revert to a one-day event for the show, which is celebrating its 32nd anniversary.

This is after last year's two-day attraction, which featured the Sugababes at the top of the bill, cost 345,000 — a staggering 166,000 over budget.

It was labelled by Coun Gail Turner (Ind) as "the most flagrant misuse of public money I have ever seen".

Archer and the Counterfeit Beatles will once again perform during the ever-popular evening concert, which will be followed by the traditional finale of a spectacular fireworks display.

Other attractions will include a big-top circus, horticulture tents and competitions, trade stalls, games and activities for the whole family.
