Ashfield District Council’s budget consultation finishes today (Friday 6th December) - with hundreds of people having signed a petition against proposals to stop funding the district’s Citizens’ Advice Bureau.
The CAB’s chief executive Sue Davis and chairman Peter Robinson handed over the petition of more than 2,000 signatures to the council’s deputy chief executive Dave Greenwood yesterday.
Ceasing to provide grants to voluntary bodies and community groups is one of 14 proposals put forward by the authority to save it £1.1m.
Council bosses say the cuts are needed after the Government announced it was reducing the grant it gives to Ashfield.
They will see a 21 per cent cut in grants by 2015/16.
