Curiosity was the key at the latest meeting of Leenside (Hucknall) WI on 21st January.
The speaker was Helen Crowfoot and she brought along her ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’. After a short entertaining introduction, trays of items from yesteryear were passed around for the ladies to peruse and identify.
There were lots of curious objects ranging from a china mug for a moustachioed gentleman, butter making tools and some quite horrific finger restraints to stop children fidgeting in class! The items certainly provoked lots of conversation and interest.
The President, Alison Inglis, gave a short report about her recent visit to Denman College, which was made possible with her bursary win.
There was also a small display of the items she had made on the Rag Rugging and Recycling Course.
Details were given about forthcoming events, including the Spring Council Meeting in March and the coffee morning on 22nd March at the Central Methodist Church Hall.
Social time saw a very amusing game of ‘Bring me…..’ when members were invited to match items that were found in committee member Judy Gow’s handbag!!! Much hilarity ensued and fun was had by all.
The table competition ‘Your Own Curiosity’ was won by Josie Bailey.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday 18th February at 7.15 pm at the Central Methodist Church, Baker Street, Hucknall. The speaker on the night will be a member of the local Specsavers team who will give a talk about Vision and Age. All welcome.
