This weekend will be the decider for Sutton Restauranteur and The Voice TV show contender Steven Alexander.

Talented singer Steven, who is assistant manager at The Junction Bar and Restaurant, goes up against seven other team members on Saturday night in the fight for one of three spots in the BBC live final.

“It is the frightening one but the most fun and exciting - I am really looking forwards to it,” said Steven.

For this round the competitors can choose their own song and Scots native Steven has elected to perform Grace Kelly, by Mika.

He said: “I thought it was a bit different and upbeat - it is way high and way low.

“It is good to do a song you know quite well so it is something you are comfortable with and can have a good performance with.”

Over recent weeks Steven has been practicing day and night to sharpen up his act for the big night.

“You do a lot of stuff at home to make sure you know the lyrics then there are lots of band rehearsals and proper rehearsals with the production team followed by a proper big rehearsal with Tom Jones.

“He sits right in front of you and you perform the song as well as you think you can -it is quite scary.”

The Voice involves contestants performing to a celebrity panel of four coaches who sit with their backs turned.

If coaches like a performance they turn around to signal their interest in working with the artist.

During the show’s battle stage Steven lost out to team mate Leo Ihenacho for a spot on Team Kylie but remains in the show after being given a ‘steal’ by Tom Jones.

According to the rules in the struggle for the ultimate prize of a recording contract each coach is twice allowed to steal the losing contestant of a battle for their own team.

But this has meant an added pressure for Steven, who will now be going up against team mates he has not had time to study.

“I have just been thinking however good the competition is I will nail it. I know it will be hard but you basically have to get on with it.

“This is the most nervous I have ever been doing anything .

“It is national television - it is scary because at the end of the day you feel like your career is on the line.

“There is a lot at stake because everybody wants it so badly.”
