Bikers from across the county, including one from Hucknall, all took part in the annual Easter Egg Run organised by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Last Sunday saw over 600 bikers congregate at the Forest Recreation Ground, the site of Nottingham’s Goose Fair, with countless Easter eggs they had collected from their home towns and travel along the A60 to Mansfield Fire Station.
The eggs have since been distributed to disadvantaged children and children with additional needs county-wide with cash donations raised on the day going to fund day trips for disadvantaged children and their carers/families.
The event was also an opportunity for bikers to access safety advice and for the emergency services and their partners to promote safer riding in a bid to reduce the number of motorcycle casualties.
“It was a fantastic event and completely blew me away and I was delighted to be a part of it for the first time,” said Hucknall’s Jean Brooks, known as Roz. “The day before the run, I visited many shops and businesses in Hucknall asking for egg donations or to put a pound in the piggy bank.
“The reception I got from the shop-keepers and businesses was wonderful and I want to thank everybody for their generosity and for supporting the scheme,” added Roz who lives on Goodall Crescent and took the journey riding pillion to Chad Naughton.
The event was hosted for the eighth year running by the fire service and bikers were met in Mansfield with a reception and refreshments available, along with trade stands from the Shiny Side Up Partnership, ROSPA and the Institute of Advanced Motorists.
Bike safety demonstrations and a raffle with prizes sponsored by a number of local and national companies was also available.
