Venue: Stade de Nice, Nice

Date: Monday, 27 June

Kick-off: 20:00 BST

England will hope to quieten the critics and win a first knockout match at a major tournament for a decade when they take on Iceland in the last-16 in Nice tonight.

Where can I watch it on TV?

England v Iceland will be broadcast on ITV1.

Teams

Harry Kane is expected to return to the starting line-up after being rested in the stalemate with Slovakia, while Wayne Rooney and Dele Alli are also thought to be in contention, with Hodgson likely to revert back to a similar team that started the win over Wales.

Winger Raheem Sterling does look set to be replaced though, with Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge standing by.

Iceland have a fully-fit side for their clash against England, with coaches Lars Lagerback and Heimir Hallgrimsson likely to keep the team unchanged from their victory over Austria.

Ones to watch

England: Harry Kane

The Tottenham star has yet to get off the mark in France and did not start in the goalless draw against Slovakia, but still remains England’s best striker.

There were signs of fatigue during the Wales match, before being substituted at half-time. But after more than a week’s rest, there is little doubt that he can still produce the performances that have turned him into a Premier League goal machine.

“I’m not tired. I feel sharp, I feel ready,” said the 22-year-old.

“We want to beat Iceland and see who we get.

“We fancy ourselves against anyone. We are one of the best teams in the tournament.”

Iceland: Gylfi Sigurdsson

The Swansea City midfielder has had a quiet campaign so far, by comparison to some of his team-mates, but there will be no shortage of players in the England side who will know what he is capable of.

The ex-Tottenham man has started each of the three group matches, grabbing the opener in the 1-1 draw against Hungary, and despite his nation’s lack of experience and star quality, Sigurdsson and his side are beaming with confidence.

“We have no pressure on us, that’s the main thing,” said the 26-year-old.

“If you look at England, if they were to lose to us there will be headlines back in England.

“We are just here to enjoy the tournament and the last 16. It’s an amazing feeling and we just want to keep going.”

Head-to-head record

Matches between these two nations have been few and far between, with the first encounter coming in 1982, when Iceland held England to a 1-1 draw.

The only other meeting came in a warm-up match, prior to Euro 2004, where a Wayne Rooney brace helped the Three Lions to a 6-1 victory.
