The 32nd annual Robin Hood Festival taking place between August 1 and 7.

Nottinghamshire County Council will host the annual festival at historic Sherwood Forest.

The event is always a popular draw, with thousands of visitors each year coming to enjoy a packed programme of family entertainment. However rumours abound that the Sheriff of Nottingham might try to spoil the fun.

Those attending the festival can expect entertaining scuffles between the arch rivals, colourful displays with costumed characters and medieval music, craft stalls, storytelling, comedy and have a go archery – there’s plenty for everyone.

There are also falconry displays and live jousting tournaments on the Wednesday, Saturday and the Sunday.

Councillor John Knight, committee chairman for culture, at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “We are looking forward to another fantastic Robin Hood Festival which always entertains and excites everyone who attends and is a great day out for the whole family.

“We attract visitors from across the UK and from abroad to visit iconic Sherwood Forest and celebrate the world’s favourite medieval outlaw.”

Festival Folk characters always provide a key focal point during the week with many much loved characters set to return this year including jesters What a Palaver!, the Medieval Maniax, medieval pig farmer Simple Tom, open air theatre favourites Alan a Dale and Rosie and the Crazy Dutch Regulars to name a few, who entertain and interact with the crowds with their unique acts.

Around 40,000 visitors attended the festival last year and it is now into its 32nd year.

Activities and events are spread across Sherwood Forest Country Park near Edwinstowe from 11am to 4pm each day.

There is also an evening programme of entertainment during the week.

The festival is free entry but with £5 parking and provides a great day out for the family.
