An elderly man was taken to hospital after a fire broke out at a Selston care home today (Monday 12th May).

Firefighters from Ashfield and Eastwood were called out to Wren Hall Nursing Home on Nottingham Road just before 10am.

The fire was in one of the first floor bedrooms but did not spread any further.

Crews used a hose reel and breathing apparatus to put out the flames and a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear any smoke.

An elderly gentleman was taken to hospital following the incident.

Firefighters were detained until after 11am.
