Nottingham City Council’s chief executive Ian Curryer accompanied Coun Jackie Morris on a visit to the Bestwood and Bulwell Food Bank.
The initiative is run from St Phillip’s Church, Top Valley, and Mr Curryer went along during one of his visits around the city to see first hand the work of front line council and voluntary services throughout Nottingham City.
The Bestwood and Bulwell Food Bank is one of 10 food banks in the city and is operated by the Trussell Trust, the largest national food bank provider.
“Food poverty continues to be a huge issue nationally and is increasingly being picked up in the media,” said Ian.
“Nigel Webster and his team of volunteers are doing a great job supporting Nottingham citizens in need.
“It was really moving to meet some of the people accessing the service and humbling to speak to the volunteers who give up their time to enable this invaluable operation to keep running.”
