A new campaign to get local people to vote for their favourite independent businesses in Hucknall has been welcomed.
The town’s MP, Mark Spencer, has launched a campaign called Help the High Street with a web page at www.markspencermp.co.uk/helpthehighstreet.
People can go on to the site and register a vote for their favourite business in his constituency.
Stuart Pocklington, from the I Love Hucknall group, which campaigns to highlight what the town has to offer, said: “Anything that helps promote local businesses has to be a good thing.
“Often, people don’t realise what’s on their doorstep, like Sweet cafe, Lawrence Severn butchers or H Francis & Sons bakers.”
Launching his campaign, Mark Spencer said: “As the husband of the owner of an independent farm shop in Lambley, I know how challenging it can be for local businesses, this is why I always try to shop locally wherever I can.
“I’m sure some may have seen me “sprinting” from my office to the cob shop on Watnall Road for my hot pork roll (recommended).
“I genuinely believe that we live in a fabulous community, so let’s try and improve our local high street by helping out our independent shops.”
Posters for the MP’s campaign will go up across Hucknall in every shop or cafe that wants to support it, culminating in an Independence Day on the July 4th.
