A soldier from Hucknall has died after being struck by a trailer near Okehampton, Devon.
Private Cameron Laing was struck by an uncoupled trailer and pinned against the towing vehicle at Bracken Tor youth hostel at around 9.45pm on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old man, serving with 7 Theatre Logistic Regiment Royal Logistic Corps, suffered severe head and chest injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
His family and partner have paid tribute to him: “Cameron was an amazing son, brother, boyfriend and expectant father. He was a loveable rogue, always playing practical jokes and the fun in any situation.
“He could not wait to be a father to his son, baby Cameron. He will be sorely missed by everyone whose life he touched.”
Both the towing vehicle and trailer were military items and were part of a small convoy heading towards Okehampton battle camp.
The Health and Safety Executive has been informed and a police investigation into the incident continues.
