Stephen John Feeley, 40,of High Close, changed his plea to guilty for the thefts on July 10, 11, 14 and 17, when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’s Court on Tuesday.

Two of the thefts took place while Feeley was on bail and the other two while he was on bail and licence, the court heard. He also admitted failing to attend post-sentence supervision meetings on June 21, July 1 and 13.

Yvonne Wragg, mitigating, said: “He was committing the offences with a friend who has received custody.

“Mr Feeley was homeless and wanted to get access to his four children, and provide for them in the little way that he can.”

She said his wife had died some years previously and Feeley had turned to drink and drugs to cope.

She said he had missed the appointments because of his ‘chaotic lifestyle’ and suffered from ulcers and deep vein thrombosis.

Magistrates sentenced him to 12 days for the breach of his licence and 175 days for the thefts.
