Christmas last year was a busy time for Hucknall’s Leanne Braisby.
The dental nurse gave birth to daughter Orlagh on December 30th.
And when Leanne (34) and husband Daniel (35) were thinking about decorating baby’s room, they had a mural painted in the theme of the hit John Lewis advert that centred on the Bear and Hare.
Kirkby artist Daniel Wright (27), of Wright Designs, painted the mural within a day.
Proud mum Leanne posed a picture of the mural on Facebook, with lots of comments from friends and family.
And that’s when John Lewis staff noticed the picture andwere impressed.
They have now sent Leanne original stills from the Christmas advert.
Leanne said: “We knew of Daniel’s work at friends’ houses and so asjked him to come and do ours.
“We were really pleased with the mural, and showed it off on Facebook.
“Then John Lewis got in touch and said they liked the mural and said they would send us some prints.”
Research showed that the John Lewis Christmas hare and bear advert was the most discussed on social media in 2013, closely followed by an advert from rival Sainsbury’s.
Daniel said: “We had a couple of ideas for the mural, including the one we chose and a theme based on Watership Down.
“It took about eight hours to complete nd it was fantastic to hear from John Lewis.”
Daniel, who is a carer for his partner, began painting as a hobby and was encouraged to start up a business after getting rave reviews for his work.
Christmas adverts are some of the most talked about TV moments and for many signal the start of festivities.
The 2013 advert from John Lewis was an animated tale of a hare who battles to make sure that a bear does not miss out on the festivities.
The advert also had music from Lily Allen, who sang Keane’s Somewhere Only We Know.
The bear goes to sleep in his cave, and while he is there, the hare creeps back and places a small present, wrapped up in Christmas wrapping paper, for the bear to find.
