Papplewick and Linby’s newly formed WI is now official.
Lapwings WI group, which meets at Papplewick Village Hall, is now part of the Nottinghamshire Federation of WIs following the Official Formation at their meeting on Thursday 26th June.
Lapwings’ president, Debbie Perkins, talked about the formation of the group and the interesting times ahead, both in activities and fundraising and also read out a letter of welcome from Janice Langley, National Federation chairman.
The group have been fortunate to be helped and guided through these initial stages by WI advisers and are very grateful for their support.
Lapwings WI were also very pleased to be joined on their special evening by Jane Jefferson, the County Federation chairman, Pamela Stoddart, vice chairman of Notts Federation, Maureen Ashby, past Federation chairman, as well as representatives from neighbouring WIs.
Jane Jefferson welcomed the group and explained that it was an exciting time to join as the WI will be celebrating their centenary next year. Jane also explained about the running of the WI and the many events Lapwings can now be part of, both in the county and nationally.
The Official Signing of the Constitution and Rules was followed by a rendition of the WI anthem “Jerusalem” and a buffet supper provided by all the members, including a cake made by Lapwings secretary, Janet Stevenson.
The group meets twice a month, the second Tuesday 10 am – 12 noon and the fourth Thursday 7.30–9.30pm. The next Tuesday meeting is July 8th.
