A free family fun event is being planned for the May day bank holiday weekend in Hucknall.

Butler’s Hill Infant School, Broomhill Junior School and the SureStart Children’s Centre have joined forces to organise the Hucknall May Festival.

The event will take place on the site of the three centres, off Broomhill Road, on Saturday 3rd May from 11am-2pm.

“This is the first time we have attempted an event like this,” said organiser and Friends of Broomhill chairman, Sarah Duffin.

“We wanted to run an event that wasn’t just about fundraising but about showing families what groups and facilities are on offer.

“All the site’s groups have come together to promote the local area and give children a day to enjoy and try and see new things.

“There will be a showground in the centre of the field that will hold displays and entertainment from circus juggling, zumba dancing and kick-boxing demonstrations to name a few.”

White Post Farm are also going to be bringing a selection of their animals from snakes and spiders to rabbits and lambs.

And a number of community groups will also be running stalls including refreshments and cakes.

The children’s centre will play host to a variety of activities including crafts and painting.

“Activities will be split between inside and out but we are praying for good weather,” added Sarah. “And thanks to a grant from the district councillors of £400, we don’t have to charge an entry fee and can now pay for special activites.

“It’s going to be a fun day.”
