MP survey over city status for Hucknall

In the next couple of weeks you should have a survey land on your doormat from me, as your MP I want to represent your views.

I know what Hucknall residents think about lots of different issues when I knock on doors and chat to people in the street, but it really helps if I can have survey results to hand over and show what local people think about certain proposals.

This really helps me in proving what people think rather than me, and makes it much easier to defend a position when challenged by an alternative view. It would really help if you could fill out the survey when you get it and send it back to me in the pre-paid envelope.

Following the comments of a Nottingham City Councillor regarding his view that Hucknall should become part of Nottingham City I have decided to send a survey out to every house in Hucknall to see what you think about this idea.

My opinion is that we have a great town and I do not want it to become a suburb of Nottingham like Bulwell, I think Hucknall should remain an independent town and community in the Ashfield District part of the County.

Nottingham City Labour Councillor Steve Battlemuch writing in the Nottingham Post a few weeks ago spoke of the need for a “greater Nottingham council”, he went on to say “Why does this matter? Well, money matters and the city needs it for a variety of reasons”

I disagree, I don’t think we need to have a ‘Greater Nottingham’ and yes money does matter but he is talking about our money. I think Hucknall’s council tax payers money should be spent here not on improving Nottingham City where we don’t live!

Mr Battlemuch added, “I hope my party will grasp this nettle when hopefully we win the next election. I for one will be arguing just as loudly for them to do so.”

Well it’s clear what Labour’s agenda is, let’s have one enormous Nottingham. This is certainly not an opinion I share!

At the same time as this is apparently being discussed in the Labour ranks there is also a proposal to allow Hucknall to have single councillor wards, in my opinion this is a very good idea as it increases accountability in local politicians. Councillors then can’t pass the buck to another who represents the same ward.

I want to know what you think about these two ideas and then the results can be made public and sent to Nottingham City Council to show them what the people of Hucknall think. I would be very grateful if you could complete my survey when it arrives in a couple of weeks and send it back to us using the prepaid envelope.

As always if you would like to chat to me or have any issues or queries please drop me an email at mark.spencer.mp@parliament.uk or call my office on 0115 968 1186.
