Nativity play for Hucknall

A fully staged re-telling of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, the project is produced by Hucknall Team Ministry and is the brainchild of the curate, former theatre director Revd. James Pacey.

It is being staged in St. Mary Magdalene Church on December 15 and 16 and follows on from the success of similar ventures in Newark.

James, 32, said: “We were blown away by the success of the project in 2011 and it is a real pleasure to be staging a similar initiative here in Hucknall. Theatre is an incredibly powerful form of expression and communication: our aim is to produce a play that explores the origins of Christmas in an entertaining, fresh and dynamic way that appeals to Christians and non-Christians alike.”

It will stand alongside the church’s usual Christmas services, yet despite the festive season it will be different from a normal nativity.

James added: “The play aims to dig deeply into the relationship between Mary and Joseph, to show the struggles faced by the people in ancient Judea, and to explore the origins of Christmas in the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. It is a real community initiative with cast members being drawn from all over Hucknall and the surrounding areas.”
