Chad’s online audience continues to grow and grow as record numbers use our website to get their news and sport.
Nearly one million people visited www.chad.co.uk during 2013 to view our improved range of content and video news.
By the end of last year 939,983 different people had visited our hugely popular site and viewed a whopping 7.3 million pages.
Chad’s most viewed story of the year was the tragic tale of three people losing their lives following an horrific crash on Mansfield Woodhouse’s Debdale Lane.
It was followed by the incident which left Mansfield Town red-faced after they forgot their kit for the away trip to Torquay in October.
Other well read stories included the strange appearance of a clown around Mansfield and Ashfield and the tragic discovery of the body of Mansfield teenager Ciaran Sweeney.
Chad editor Phil Bramley said the figures showed the increasing importance of web-based platforms, and social media in particular, for newspapers.
He added: “The clown story showed how the way people communicate with us as news gatherers is changing - people are increasingly using Twitter and Facebook to raise newsworthy issues.
“And newspapers are using social media not only to increase their audiences but also to encourage participation from the public.
“The Chad’s web figures over past year demonstrate how online journalism is changing the way the industry interacts with its audience.”
