Over 1,000 caught in driver clampdown

Over 1,000 drivers in Nottinghamshire have been caught using a phone at the wheel or refusing to wear a seatbelt in just two weeks of a police campldown.

Nottinghamshire Police began a two month sustained enforcement campaign on April 1, with over 1,000 already caught within the first fortnight.

Chief Inspector Andy Charlton said: “Sadly this isn’t a surprise – despite similar campaigns in 2012 and 2013 - it shows a significant number of people still regard their addiction to their phone as more important than the safety of others and themselves.
